SolutionPilot programme

Faster discovery, and an honest measurement of what it produced

Traditional search reporting stops too early. This accelerates how quickly priority URLs are discovered and refreshed, then measures separately whether search engines found them faster and whether AI answer engines began citing them.

Delivered as a scoped pilot on a defined set of priority URLs rather than across an entire site.

The problem

Search reporting stops before the outcome that now matters

Conventional reporting tells you what was indexed and what was clicked. It does not tell you how quickly a page was discovered, whether search engines refreshed it when it changed, or whether AI answer engines used it as a source. Those are now separate questions with separate evidence, and conflating them is how the market ends up over-claiming. The prerequisite for both is the same: a site that is easy to crawl and unambiguous about what changed and when.

  • Publishing that takes far longer to appear than it should
  • No visibility into how quickly search engines discover new or updated URLs
  • Priority content that search engines appear not to have refreshed
  • Inability to say whether AI answer engines cite you at all, or for what
  • Competitors appearing in AI answers for queries where you are absent
  • Reporting that cannot separate what you did from what changed as a result
Who it is for

Who gets value from this

Head of SEO

You need discovery speed and citation visibility measured as distinct from conventional rankings, with evidence that shows what was done as well as what changed.

CMO

You need to know whether AI answers are affecting your category and what specifically to invest in, without buying into a mechanism nobody can verify.

Publisher or platform teams

Where content freshness determines commercial value and discovery latency is a measurable loss.

How it works

The mechanism

What it actually does, in the order it does it.

Discovers where discovery is failing

Establishes which URLs search engines have not found, or have found but not refreshed despite changes — crawl gaps, stale pages and sitemap coverage that does not match the real route inventory.

Prioritises by commercial value rather than by URL count

Not every URL deserves accelerated discovery. Selection is driven by commercial value, freshness requirement and citation potential, so effort concentrates where the return is.

Accelerates and reinforces discovery signals

Submission, refresh and validation of the technical signals that tell search engines a URL exists and has changed. This is the part that acts directly.

Monitors crawl and coverage

Tracks URL discovery speed and refresh frequency, and the share of priority URLs that have actually been indexed — so the coverage question is answered separately from the ranking question.

Measures AI citation outcomes independently

Citation data is taken from third-party tooling and reported as external evidence, not as a product output. Which queries return answers citing you, which pages are cited, and how citation share compares against a competitor set.

Keeps three kinds of result separate

Platform actions, search outcomes and AI outcomes are reported in three distinct layers. This is the design decision that makes the reporting credible — it is what prevents an action being presented as a result.

Outputs

What you get

Discovery

  • Crawl gaps and stale pages
  • Sitemap coverage against the real route inventory
  • URL discovery speed and refresh frequency
  • Share of priority URLs indexed

Citation

  • Queries returning answers that cite the site
  • Cited pages and their topic distribution
  • Citation share against a defined competitor set
  • Topic and entity gaps where citations are absent

Separation of evidence

  • Platform actions taken
  • Search discovery outcomes
  • AI citation outcomes
Limits

What this does not do

Stated plainly, because the alternative is discovering it after you have bought it.

It cannot force a citation

No product can. AI answer engines select their own sources and do not publish their selection criteria. This work improves the conditions that make citation possible — crawlability, freshness signals and structured discovery — then measures whether citations follow.

Citation measurement is an emerging and imperfect discipline

Current citation data comes from third-party tools with real coverage limitations and genuine volatility. Reading any single result as precise would be wrong. We track direction and share rather than treating a figure as a measurement, and we say so in the reporting.

Third-party evidence is not a product interface

Where outer evidence is shown — for example citation reporting from a search engine's own webmaster tooling — it is presented as independent third-party evidence and attributed as such. We do not present external tool output as our own product dashboard, and illustrative screenshots are never presented as client results.

It is a pilot, not a platform rollout

The productive approach is a bounded set of high-value URLs, not sitewide submission. Sitewide acceleration spends effort on URLs that will never be cited and makes the result impossible to attribute.

Search engineering at stockbroking scale

A stockbroking platform publishing at news velocity was losing search visibility to problems that had nothing to do with content quality. Two workstreams ran in parallel: sustaining a high-volume editorial output across business and market categories, and diagnosing the technical faults — a domain safety flag, recurring server errors, and a metadata defect on a templated page type — that were suppressing how much of that output search engines could actually reach.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you guarantee AI citations?

No. It accelerates discovery, strengthens freshness and structure signals, and measures whether citations follow. Crawlability, structure and freshness can be engineered directly; citation decisions remain under each AI platform's control.

How many URLs does a pilot cover?

Deliberately few. Selection is by commercial value and citation potential rather than by volume, because a pilot on a high-value set produces an attributable result while a sitewide submission produces a number nobody can interpret. The exact set is defined with you at the start.

How do you measure citations?

Using third-party search-engine webmaster tooling, which exposes queries where the site was used as a source, the cited pages and citation share. It is independent evidence rather than our own reporting, which is why we use it — and it has real limitations, which is why we report direction and share rather than treating any single reading as precise.

Our site is not crawlable properly. Does this still help?

Not much, and we would say so. Discovery acceleration on a site with crawl or indexation faults spends effort against a blocker. The prerequisite work — crawlability, indexation, clean structure — comes first, and it is covered by our technical SEO capability. Several engagements start there and add citation work once the foundation is sound.
